What's up slayerrrss
We had a silly week this week that's for sure.
We got to volunteer at the food bank which is always baller. There was this point when they were giving out pumpkins and mind you these were BIG pumpkins. Anyway, these two teenagers were just looking at this HUGE box, wondering how to get the last few pumpkins out for everyone. And they weren't making any moves so I climbed in and started throwing the pumpkins out. Meanwhile, my compy is inside helping out, and someone comes in and says, “Sister Olsen is in a box.” And walks away, my comp comes out and finds me. We had a good laugh out of it. She was mega confused on where I had gone and why I was fighting for my life trying to lift these pumpkins.
Big miracle from this week, we had a friend come to church! Which is absolute bars. I haven't had a friend come to church yet as a missionary so big deal guys! His name is Lalo and he was a social media referral. We had called him for a lesson during the week and then we invited him to church. We invited him to come a little before so we could do a church tour with him. We were on one side of the church and he came through the other side and our member we had asked to join us found him. We took him around and the church and got to talk a bit about baptism and the Christ in America picture. We then went over to a photo of Christ washing his disciples feet and the member, Brother Groves, started to tear up and the spirit was so strong. We went into the chapel and everyone came and said hi. It was epic. We sang the songs in spanish with him. And he took the sacrament. We asked him how he liked sacrament meeting and he said it was “muy bonita” and he said he's learning and understanding “poco de poco”. It was so cute. We had elders' quorum and so we just left him to go with some members who speak spanish to translate. It was literally like dropping my kid off at school hoping everyone's nice and they don't get bullied. So good though everything went swimmingly.
I'm realizing there is SO much joy I am feeling out here everyday. Some mornings I am in the trenches. But the moment I get to get out and talk with people and see the beautiful world around me along with the neat people I get to talk to, I feel so much joy. And its so random because truly our job is so random! I've been studying a bit about the gift of the Holy Ghost. It is absolutely amazing what kind of gift it is. Nephi says “ 6 And I was led by the Spirit, not knowing beforehand the things which I should do” I love this because he understood he had the gift of the Holy Spirit with him but yet he still was unsure fo how things were going to turn out or what the next step was gonna be. The gift of the holy ghost is simply understanding that God has PROMISED to never leave you. So why would we doubt that he is not directing our paths? He is constantly and to do as Nephi is so Go even though our path is not sure, but trusting that sweet Spirit can be with us. And that is the source of our Joy! That is where the light comes from. It is literally baptism fire! Meaning an opportunity to feel of God's warmth and light everyday. Anyway, I wanted to invite you all to seek and recognize those moments of joy. Be humble enough to recognize God's consistent hand in your life.
“Be thou humble… and the Lord thy God shall lead thee by the hand and give thee answer to thy prayers”
Speaking of not knowing where your headed…
Today for p-day we went for a hike with the
zone
very exciting stuff. We decided to do this cool hike to a beautiful lake. It was about 7 miles round trip. They said it might have snowed so to dress warm but we'd be chillin. So we drive and realize it is actually very much snowy but VERY BEAUTIFUL. Anyway we started our hike up and it was going lovely until we realized we weren't gonna make it to the lake. Oh why? Because we walked in the actual opposite direction….. GULP esta bien porque it's not about the destination it's about the friends we made along the way
it was actually so fun and I loved it. But mega funny considering we ate our lunch we had packed on a random hill in the middle of the woods with no trail in sight.
